Removes toxins from the body
Far Infrared Sauna
In a traditional sauna, you are just sitting in a hot room heated to around 80-100°C. The heat is very intense, often makin it difficult to breathe. This means you can’t stay in it for long enough to experience the benefits.
A far infrared sauna offers a lower, more gentle heat of between 27-49°C. The heat is directly heating your body’s core, rather than the air around you, so you can spend the required amount of time in the sauna to experience the benefit and experience a deep sweat of toxins out of the body.
The beneficial far infrared heat raises your core body temperature and stimuates your lymphatic system, your immune system and your cardiovascular system. Your body’s response to that is to sweat profusely.
In addtion to the far infrared heat triggering this sweat, the water in our body also resonates with far infrared heat and this also helps with the detoxification process.
The key benefits are:
Helps ease muscle and joint pain
Improves skin, tissues and cells
Helps with weight loss and reduces cellulite
General health and well-being
Lower blood pressure
Relax and unwind
Far infrared saunas generate 2-3 times more deep sweat than conventional saunas. Because of this deep sweat, 20% of the sweat produced from a far infrared sauna is toxins, versus 3% in a regular sauna. These toxins that you sweat out during a far infrared sauna include cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulphuric acid, sodium, ammonia and uric acid.
Far infrared saunas offer a gentle increase in heart rate and cardiovascular conditioning, making it a more comfortable and safe heat to burn calories than conventional saunas. NASA has used far infrared therapy to help maintain fitness levels of astronauts in weightless environments.
A 60 minute session in a far infrared sauna will safely burn up to 800 calories, a perspiration excretion equivalent to a ten mile run, and will also increase the processing enzyme activity in your digestive tract.
Number Of Sessions Required
The number of sessions varies by individual. The initial consultation is provided free of charge to enable a discussion of the treatment and to understand the results you want to achieve, and a suitable number of sessions and a treatment plan can then be recommended*.
The standard far infrared sauna session length is between 45 to 60 minutes.
*Please note that results will vary from person to person.
FAQs
How do far infrared saunas differ from conventional saunas?
A conventional sauna heats the ait, which then heats the outside of your skin (no penetration). A conventional sauna typically heats the air to between 800-100°C. This extreme heat is hard on the respiratory system and eyes of some people.
Far infrared heat is typically 38-50°C and the heat waves penetrate up to 2 inches into your body. This heats you up from the inside, quickly raising your core temperature. When your core temperature is raised, you will release toxins and heavy metals from your fat and water cells, into your lymphatic fluid and out through your sweat. Approximetely 20% of this sweat is toxins compared to only 2-3% in a regular sauna.
The benefits of far infrared saunas far outweigh those from regular saunas, even though the temperatures are lower, and the experience is more enjoyable.
Are far infrared saunas safe?
Yes. Infrared is a part of nature and essential for life. The gentle heat is half that of a conventional sauna, so the heat is soothing, comfortable and even safe for people with heart problems. In fact, it is so safe that hospitals use similar heaters to warm newborn babies.
Can anyone use far infrared saunas?
Far infrared saunas are incredibly safe. However, we would advise you to just check with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following apply:
- You are taking any prescription medications
- You have systematic lupus
- You have erythematosus
- You have multiple sclerosis
- You have had a recent (acute) joint injury
- You are pregnant
- You have surgical implants
- You are menstruating or haemorrhaging
- If you have any condition or pain that gets worse when using a sauna
What is it like having a treatment?
As mentioned, you will sweat as the temperature rises. The temperature can be controlled by you inside the sauna.
Additionally, the sauna is equipped with a Bluetooth speaker so you can relax on the ergonomic seating, unwind and listen to music or anything you choose whilst in the sauna.
